NATURAL COLOURS: WHAT ARE THEY?

The festival of colours – Holi can’t be celebrated without colours. Holi should be celebrated safely but the biggest problem that remains is the chemical colour which does a lot of damage. Chemicals such as copper sulphate, lead oxide, chromium iodide and many more users. These chemicals are very harmful to our environment as well as our bodies.

WHAT ARE NATURAL COLOURS?

The best possible replacement for chemical holi colours is natural colours.  The Organic natural colours are eco-friendly and are acquired from natural substances. These colours are obtained from natural sources and dyes. They are available in different shades of colours and are the best replacement for synthetic chemical colours.

Earlier Holi colours were used to be made up from extracts of flower petals, barks, and woods of various plants. They are eco-friendly and can be applied to everyone as the ingredients are natural.

DIY NATURAL COLOURS

Natural organic colours could be overpriced for many people. Everyone can’t afford to buy these organic colours from stores. Nowadays, organic eco-friendly colours are readily available in markets, but they can’t be very reliable. The best option to play Holi now is to make the colours at your home.

One can make the vibrant pink colour by grinding beetroot and then drying it. Then the dried powder can be mixed with besan and your pink colour is ready.

The red colour, which is the most popular colour, can be made very quickly too. Dried rose or hibiscus petals should be ground, then add flour. Red Chandan powder can also be added to it.

Orange colour can be made from the flower Palash which is the flower of spring and is readily available during Holi. Grinding the dried flower and then adding it to flour will make your orange colour ready.

Yellow colour is the easiest to make and is one of the most vibrant colours. This colour can be curated by mixing turmeric powder, and orange peels in besan. It can also be made by dried marigold petals by grinding them and adding them to the flour.

Mixing the pure henna powder with flowers will give you the best green colour.  Then adding amla powder to the green will give you a brown colour.

You can play around with many colours like this and make your colours at home. This will be a fun activity for the kids and ensure that the colours they are playing with are harmless and eco-friendly.

Synthetic colours harm the environment in many ways and affect our ecosystem by damaging the soil, air, water, and even street dogs. Using organic colour will make sure that you don’t suffer from any guilt and splash as much colour as you want. We all should be careful of our surroundings and use non toxic holi colors.
